Day 33     God Has Favorites
Luke 4:19 (New International Version, ©2010)

19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor....
Yes, God does have favorites and you are it!!  Remember how in gym class some kids always got picked first and some were always last.  Well, guess what?? In this “game of life” God always picks you first—even if you are not perfect and even if you have nothing to offer the team.
God knew we wouldn’t be perfect so He sent Jesus to the cross to die for our imperfections.  Now when God looks at us, He sees perfection because of the blood that was atoned for us.  Amazing!!  And all we had to was call on God.  He did all the rest.  Totally amazing!!  In fact if we try to figure it out in our minds, it will not compute!!
If you aren’t convinced that you are His favorite, think about this:

Luke 4:19 (Amplified Bible)

19To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day [a]when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound.
Now that’s taking it to the next level, don’t you think?
How about this??

Acts 10:34 (New International Version, ©2010)

34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism.

We are all His favorites!!  Sometimes in a family it “seems” like one child is favored over another.  But in God’s family, the Father loves us all the same.  He loves us all the most because He is God.
When we make mistakes, it is our tendency to pull away so we might feel like God is distancing Himself from us.  In reality it is us doing the “distancing.”  All we have to do is move in closer to God and ask forgiveness for the wrong we did and get that division removed.
We don’t have to spend one day, one hour or one minute away from God.

Hebrews 4:16 (New King James Version)

16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

If we are in Christ---in the family of God—there is a place for us right up close to His throne.  I often think of President John F. Kennedy when I read this scripture.  Remember that picture of John John playing under his desk in the oval office??  He had permission to be there because he was in the family.
If we are in God’s family, we are His favorite and we can be up close and personal with Him.  I am so glad, aren’t you?
Today’s Assignment:
1.       Read these scriptures and make them personal:

Hebrews 6:18
Hebrews 13:5
Psalms 84:11

2.       If you feel distanced from God, spend some time asking the Holy Spirit to show you what has gotten in the way.  Remember the Holy Spirit is your own, personal Counselor.

John 14:26 (Amplified Bible)

26But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.

Prayer:
Father, I see those things that have caused me to pull away and I want them to be removed.  Forgive me for the part that I have had in putting them there.  Forgive me for my wrong behaviors and wrong thoughts and wrong reactions.  I don’t want anything to come between You and me.  I treasure You, God and I long to be near you at all times.  Thank You for forgiving me and drawing me close to You.  Amen.
